Community, joy, and groove are essential to this dance.
Sammy Reyes is a Hip Hop Dance Artist. Sammy’s piece will use break-in, funk, house, vogue, hip hop, social dance, lock-in, and jazz funk as the vocabulary of movement. A high energy nonstop work that puts a lens on the question ARE WE ALONE?? And if not – do Aliens know how to get down and get FUNKY!!
Matthew Williams (they/them) is a Baltimore-based performing artist, somatic facilitator, and lifelong student of the body. Their performance practice is inspired by the human body as a site for choice, liberation, and a means to be in relationship with place and community across differences. Matt will create a dance-theatre performance that explores improvisation and voice.
Xinyi Zhang is a dancer, choreographer, and educator with a strong foundation in Classical Chinese Dance. She is currently performing with the José Limón Dance Company in New York. Xinyi’s work is deeply rooted in storytelling and the exploration of human emotion through movement. She has extensive experience working with students, encouraging them to find their authentic voices in dance.
In addition to these guests, there will also be works choreographed by Salisbury senior Kate Carpenter, theater professor Jamie McKittrick, dance professor Jennifer Leung Johnson, screendance maker Rebecca Lloyd Jones (NYC), and interim director of the SU Dance Company Deborah Black.
If cast in the company, you are required to register for a one credit course that meets every Monday from 4:30-6:30pm. You are required to attend all classes, rehearsals, and be present for tech rehearsals April 1-3.
Please note! Some dancers will also be cast in a dance film that will be shown at the spring SUDC concert and also at the Salisbury Dance Festival on April 10th at Holloway Hall. One guest or faculty piece will also be performed live at the festival on April 12 & 13.
